September 1918 begann eine Offensive gegen die Frontlinie der amerikanischen Ersten Armee. Deutsche Soldaten griffen vor dem Turm von Montfaucon an. Dieser Angriff dauerte bis zum 11. November 1918, als der Feind seine Niederlage eingestand. Die Maas-Argonnen-Offensive war zu diesem Zeitpunkt die gr\u00f6\u00dfte Schlacht in der amerikanischen Geschichte. Von den 1.200.000 eingesetzten M\u00e4nnern wurde ein hoher Tribut gefordert. Es wird berichtet, dass 125.000 Menschen get\u00f6tet, verwundet oder vermisst wurden.<\/p>\n\n<p>An den Mauern des Denkmals ist eine Karte eingraviert, die die Operationen darstellt und die Geschichte der amerikanischen Soldaten erz\u00e4hlt, die sich f\u00fcr die Freiheit geopfert haben. Von einer Aussichtsplattform aus kann man den gr\u00f6\u00dften Teil des damals eroberten Gebiets \u00fcberblicken.&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>Der 1937 von der American Battle Monuments Commission errichtete Turm von Montfaucon wird auch heute noch von der Kommission gewartet. Bei der Einweihung des Turms hielt der Pr\u00e4sident der Vereinigten Staaten, Franklin D. Roosevelt, eine Rede in Washington. &#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>Nach dem Besuch der amerikanischen Gedenkst\u00e4tte laden wir Sie zu einem Spaziergang zwischen den Ruinen der Abtei Montfaucon und dem alten
