{"id":5703,"date":"2021-11-04T15:55:55","date_gmt":"2021-11-04T14:55:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.landofmemory.eu\/sites-historiques\/fort-troyon\/"},"modified":"2022-08-02T12:01:38","modified_gmt":"2022-08-02T10:01:38","slug":"fort-troyon","status":"publish","type":"sites-historiques","link":"https:\/\/www.landofmemory.eu\/en\/sites-historiques\/fort-troyon\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Troyon"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The legendary resistance<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-8f761849 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-vertically-aligned-center is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fort Troyon was built at the end of the 19th century, between Lacroix sur Meuse and Troyon. This exceptional building was constructed in S\u00e9r\u00e9 de Rivi\u00e8res cut stone. The fort resisted victoriously massive assaults of the German bombs in September 1914.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The enemy troops thus failed to encircle Verdun. In addition, the fort&#8217;s resistance helped protect French soldiers in the Battle of the Marne on the eastern flank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was the only fort on the Verdun-Toul line (65 km long) that never fell to the Germans when attacked. They testify to the violence of the fighting. Forgotten for 80 years, the fort has regained its prestige thanks to the motivation of many volunteers. They have worked to keep the memory of the sacrifice of their ancestors alive. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The fort is listed as a historical monument by a decree dated November 2, 1994.
