1914: The “Der des Ders” (The Last Stand)<\/b><\/h2>\n\n

The nightmare haunted many men and women from very different backgrounds that war would break out again. However, they were also aware of the continent’s decline in the face of the United States and Russia, in particular. Therefore, they tried to lay the foundations for European cooperation. It was hoped that partnership would guarantee a lasting peace between the former belligerents.<\/p>\n\n

Thus, various projects began emerging. They ranged from simple cooperation to closer unions, both in the economic and political fields, particularly from 1924 onwards with the Dawes Plan, the Locarno Agreements, and the French Committee for European Cooperation.<\/p>\n\n
