De twee kameraden stellen vast dat niets gedaan wordt om hen toe te laten zich weer aan te passen aan het normale leven, zij die fysiek en mentaal getekend werden door de gruwel van de Grote Oorlog. Zij brengen een goed draaiende zwendel op gang en beslissen te profiteren van het hypocriete patriottisme waarvan zij de eerste slachtoffers zijn. <em>Vaarwel daarboven<\/em> werd in 2013 Laureaat voor de Prix Goncourt. Het is een tragische roman die de aanpassingsmoeilijkheden onderzoekt van getraumatiseerde
