Dit werk is een vrije interpretatie gebaseerd op de oorlogsverhalen van zijn eigen grootvader als boodschapper voor de Britten op het westelijk front tijdens de Grote Oorlog maar eveneens voor de Operatie Alberich. <strong>\u201c1917\u201d<\/strong> speelt zich af in anderhalve dag  gedurende dewelke twee jonge soldaten de opdracht krijgen het annuleringsbevel over te brengen van een aanval van de Britten op de Duitsers wegens risico op een bloedbad. De broer van \u00e9\u00e9n van hen bevindt zich in de eerste linie, wat deze race tegen de klok nog belangrijker maakt. De film werd bekroond met Oscars en Golden
