Het werd gebouwd tussen 1932 en 1935 om de Belgische verdediging te versterken tegenover Duitsland en het werd lang beschouwd als oninneembaar. Maar op 10 mei 1940, werd het door Duitse elite valschermspringers ingenomen en betekende dit het begin van de oorlog in Belgi\u00eb. Het gaat hier bijgevolg om een niet te missen bezoek aan deze site op de toeristische herdenkingsroute in Europa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">Het fort is een kolossaal ondergronds complex dat zich uitstrekt over drie verdiepingen bovengrond en vijf kilometer ondergrondse gaanderijen. De 17 bunkers, over een oppervlakte van 75 ha vormen het meesterstuk van de versterkte ring rond Luik. Naar het beeld van Franse constructies uit de 16-de eeuw, werd dit fort gebouwd in de vorm van een vijfhoek en is het omgeven door een indrukwekkende beschermende uitrusting tegen gepantserde aanvallen. Dit fort is eveneens uitgerust met speciale filters voor de verluchting tegen gevechtsgassen. &#13;\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<p>Het was toen het grootste fort ooit gebouwd, maar het dak was de grootste zwakte, weinig verdedigbaar in tegenstelling tot de rest van het gebouw.<\/p>\n\n<p>Vandaag, vind je in het fort van Eben-Emael een museum, in de vroegere bevoorradingskamers. Je ontdekt er de boeiende geschiedenis van de inname van het fort door de Duitsers, hun uitrustingen en de manier waarop het geheime Duitse wapen, de holle lading, gebruikt werd. Inderdaad, de explosie binnen de gaanderijen laat je zien welk een verschrikkelijke impact dit nieuwe wapen toen had.&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<p>Sedert 2008, vind je in dit fort eveneens \u00e9\u00e9n van de drie laatste aanvalszweefvliegtuigen DFS 230 in de wereld. Dit zweefvliegtuig werd gebruikt bij de inname van het fort op 10 mei 1940 en het vertegenwoordigt de eerste aanval luchtlandingstroepen in de Geschiedenis.&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ontdekking van het fort tijdens een themabezoek<\/h2>\n\n<p>Om de geheimen van dit gebouw te ontdekken, biedt het fort verschillende themarondleidingen aan die de bezoekers toelaten om de verdedigingsbunkers en de artilleriekoepels te verkennen. De bezoeker kan eveneens het raderwerk van de komst van de zweefvliegtuigen op de bovenbouw ontdekken, de verdedigingsblokken van het gebouw bezoeken of het netwerk van ondergrondse gaanderijen met de zaklamp: spanning gegarandeerd!&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-3 is-cropped
