De Witte Dame was een clandestien inlichtingennetwerk dat zich uitstrekte van Belgi\u00eb, via het Groot Hertogdom Luxemburg tot het noorden van Frankrijk. Zo waren er op het einde van de oorlog meer dan 1000 agenten actief. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Het zijn de Luikenaars die in 1916 het netwerk opstartten. Onder hen, Pater Desonay, een Jezu\u00efet van het Sint-Servaascollege, Walth\u00e8re Dew\u00e9 en Herman Chauvin, ingenieurs. Vervolgens vervoegde commissaris Neujean hen. \n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

Het netwerk integreerde toen ook 30% vrouwen. Meer nog, van de 128 leden die het netwerk leidden, waren 50 van hen vrouwen. Sommigen, zoals Marie Delcourt, droegen belangrijke verantwoordelijkheden. Tijdens de oorlog, was zij weerstandster van het eerste uur. Zij werd voor dit engagement vereerd met het officierskruis van het Brits Keizerrijk en in de jaren dertig kwam Marie Delcourt op voor het stemrecht voor vrouwen en voor gelijkheid van werk. Zij werd nadien, trouwens professor aan de Universiteit van Luik en activiste in de Volkenbond. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Witte Dame was een uiterst doeltreffend netwerk. Het leverde aan de geheime diensten van het Britse War Office bijna drie vierden van de nuttige inlichtingen over deze streken. Het werd opnieuw in werking gesteld tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog onder de naam Clarence en ging door met het opnemen van vrouwen in hun rangen. \n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
