Onder de soldaten, waren vele schrijvers die deelgenomen hebben aan de Grote oorlog. Wij kunnen meer bepaald de volgende namen vermelden: Alain Fournier, Jean Giono, Charles P\u00e9guy, Maurice Genevoix en Louis Pergaud aan Franse zijde. Hetzelfde aan Duitse zijde: Edlef K\u00f6ppen, Ernst J\u00fcnger en Godfried Benn. De Engelse dichter Wilfred Owen vocht aan Britse zijde. \n<\/p>\n\n

Velen van hen sneuvelden. Zoals Psichari, de vriend van P\u00e9guy (zoon van de stichter van de Liga voor Mensenrechten), overleden te Rossignol tijdens de Slag der Grenzen. In de streek van Verdun, sneuvelde Alain Fournier, dichtbij Saint-R\u00e9my-la Calonne. Op de kam van Eparges brengen meerdere herdenkingssites hulde aan de schrijvers.<\/span><\/p>\n\n
