De Spaanse griep, een wereldepidemie<\/h2>\n\n

In 1918, verspreidde zich over de hele wereld een griepepidemie die bijzonder hevig en besmettelijk was (stam H1N1). De meest waarschijnlijke overdracht zou van reisduiven komen die door de verscheidene legers gebruikt werden om over de fronten heen te communiceren. Op het einde werden ze zelfs de \u201cvliegende ratten\u201d genoemd omdat zij, net als de knaagdieren, de vectoren zijn van meerdere ziektes.<\/p>\n\n

De epidemie verspreidde zich enorm tijdens de winter van 1918-1919 en maakte zo in enkele maanden tijd meer slachtoffers dan de oorlog zelf. \nMede door de ontwikkeling van het transport, was de verspreiding van het virus verbazingwekkend. In minder dan drie maanden werden alle continenten bereikt. De belangrijkste getroffen gebieden zijn Indi\u00eb, China en Europa. \nDeze pandemie veroorzaakte een wereldwijd bewustzijn en lag aan de basis van het ontstaan van Internationale Commissie voor Hygi\u00ebne, wat later de Wereld Gezondheidsorganisatie geworden is (WHO). \n<\/p>\n\n
