In juli-augustus 1940 werd Luxemburg onder rechtstreeks Duits gezag geplaatst en alle structuren van de Luxemburgse staat werden afgeschaft.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Met een intensieve propaganda probeerden de bezetters de Luxemburgers ervan te overtuigen het naziregime te ondersteunen.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Met uitzondering van enkele samenzweerders, heeft de Luxemburgse bevolking zich nooit onderworpen. In tegendeel, hoe langer de bezetting duurde hoe meer de nazi\u2019s de Luxemburgse identiteit onderdrukten en hoe groter de Luxemburgse weerstand werd.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1941 ontstonden een tiental weerstandsorganisaties om te strijden (individueel) tegen de bezettingsmachten. Zo organiseerden zij de vlucht van politieke ge\u00ebngageerden, ondersteunden de Luxemburgse onderduikers na de invoering van gedwongen aanwerving in de zomer van 1942, enz. Zij ontketenden zelfs met succes een algemene staking tegen het regime dat heel het land mobiliseerde. Meer dan 200 personen werden toen aangehouden en een twintigtal werden ge\u00ebxecuteerd.&#13;\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zonder de steun van de bevolking in het algemeen, zou de actieve weerstand veel minder succes gehad hebben met haar activiteiten.
