Through the destiny of five Poilus (ordinary French foot soldiers) who confidently went to war, the author immerses us in the context of the industrial era and the harsh realities of the First World War. The story takes place during the Battle of Maissin, in which the main hero finds his friends and his older brother in the same regiment. There he discovers that he and his older brother are in love with the same girl. Will they ever return home, in what condition, and what will happen between the two brothers?
