This Franco-American drama, directed in 2004 by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, tells the story of a young woman’s desperate quest during the First World War. She is engaged to a soldier accused of self-mutilation and executed. However, she remains convinced that he is not dead and sets out to find him. This film is adapted from the novel of the same name written by Sebastien Japrisot. The cast is outstanding (Audrey Tautou, Gaspard Ulliel, Marion Cotillard, Jodie Foster, and André Dussollier), and the film was nominated for an Oscar for Best Cinematography and Best Set Design. It’s a love story with a historical background that is a must-see.
